It’s almost like a dream. Did I truly live in the States? Merely a week in Korea, and my entire time in the US seems like a distant memory.

Before coming back to Korea, after over three years, I was curious about how it would feel. Would I feel like a stranger? I was genuinely intrigued about what I might experience. Yet, surprisingly, I’ve acclimated to life in Korea quite swiftly. In just a week, my years in the States feel so far removed.

This is an unusual experience. Yet, it’s giving me a fresh and interesting outlook on life.

This place has always been my corner of the internet, a cozy little nook where I jot down thoughts and share stories. I’ve found a lot of joy in writing here, in my native language, Korean. But hey, it’s 2023, and the world is filled with tools to help us venture out of our comfort zones, especially when it comes to language.

Living in the USA, I’ve noticed something about my blog that’s got me thinking. There aren’t as many Korean readers stopping by as I once imagined there would be. Sure, the number of English readers isn’t a lot either, but really, who cares? This is my space, my digital home, and I get to play by my own rules.

In the spirit of growth and a dash of adventure, I’ve decided to shake things up a bit. I’ll be sprinkling in English posts every now and then. It’s not just about reaching more folks, but also about challenging myself. I want to get better at writing in English, embrace its twists and turns, and maybe even come to love it as much as my native language.

어렸을 적 TV에 MTV Japan이란 채널이 나왔었다. 정말 우연하게 찾은 보물같은 채널이었던 걸로 기억한다. 요즘같이 예능이니 광고가 넘쳐나는 그런 음악 채널이 아닌 순수하게 음악만 주구장창 틀어줬던 채널. 그 채널 영향으로 일본 음악도 접했고 서양 음악도 많이 들었다. 남들 라디오로 팝송 들을때 난 뮤직비디오를 본거다. 우연이였지만 지나고나서 생각해보면 좋은 기억이고 경험이었다.

사실 제목도 잘 모르고 들었던 음악이 많은데 성인이 되고나서 아 이게 그때 그 노래였어? 하고 다시 듣게되는 음악들이 있다. 롤링스톤즈의 이 노래도 당시에 많이 들었던, 가사도 몰랐고 뮤직비디오에 나온 배우가 안젤리나 졸리라는건 상상도 못했던 그런 음악이다.

삼십대 아저씨가 되어서 다시 듣고 있으니 옛날 생각이 난다. 십수년전 기분이 되살아 나는 느낌. 향기나 음식 그리고 음악 같은걸로 과거의 기억과 기분이 되살아 나는 경험은 언제 해도 신선하다.

이케아 식탁 조립. 신혼일때부터 6인용 식탁 사고싶다고 노래를 부르던 우리는 이제서야 커다란 식탁을 구매했다.

mini-b 포트를 사용하는 키보드를 usb-c 케이블로 직접 연결해봤는데 별다른 이슈 없이 잘 작동한다. 무선 사용할때 거슬렸던 미묘한 렉이 없어서 좋다.
